The institution
An independent institution for preserving, organising and making accessible knowledge that risks becoming lost, fragmented or forgotten.
Why it exists
Knowledge can disappear through broken links, changing technology, undocumented practice, inaccessible formats, scattered evidence and the loss of human context—not only through destruction of the last copy.
Archivo 21 preserves original material where practical, but preservation is not merely storage. Evidence should remain understandable, traceable and useful to future people who did not share the circumstances in which it was collected.
The institution values comprehensive preservation over extensive acquisition: a smaller body of knowledge preserved properly is preferable to a larger accumulation that cannot be understood or maintained.
How it works
- Evidence before authority. A confident claim does not become true through presentation.
- Label uncertainty. Observation, inference, hypothesis, speculation and conclusion are different records.
- Preserve corrections. A changed mind is part of the history of the work.
- Respect time. Documentation should be as complete as necessary without manufacturing burden.
- Record what actually happened. Provenance should neither exaggerate nor erase a contributor’s role.
- Human accountability remains human. Final publication, legal, financial, consent and account decisions require human responsibility.
Its records are part of the institution
Archivo 21 publishes the documents through which it defines and corrects itself. Drafts remain drafts; adopted standards identify their authority; superseded texts remain discoverable as institutional memory.
The canonical institutional corpus lives separately from project research. This website renders readable publication copies so a visitor does not need to interpret raw Markdown or search repository trees.
Participants and projects
The current institutional participants are lcd97 (A21-HUM-001) and Archivo 21 (A21-AI-001). Archivo 21 is not currently recruiting at institutional level.
The founding AI participant identity is persistent, but it is not every AI model, session or automated output. The separate ANHQV-TS2 project uses its own independently sequenced contributor identifiers.
Projects are where the institution's methods become useful. The current flagship project is ANHQV-TS2; it has its own governance, records and contributor scope.
